Sieve Size

The sieve sizes used for the grading of the fine and coarse aggregate should be entered in the Sieve.fields on the Laboratory Measurements Dialog. If the Sieve field is blank, zero or negative, the other values in the row are ignored. If Inch-lb units are used, the user can select whether to specify a sieve size as a number or in inches. If the properties of the different sizes of the coarse aggregate are the same only one sieve size is needed for the coarse aggregate.

The grading of fine aggregate is obtained from the percents passing the fine aggregate sieve sizes, and so it is desirable to have at least a 0.6mm (No. 30) sieve and a maximum sieve size, typically 5mm (0.187”).

When the Laboratory Measurements Dialog is first brought up for a mix, the fine aggregate sieve sizes are made 0.6mm (No. 30) sieve and 5mm (0.187”), and the coarse aggregate sieve sizes are selected from standard sizes to suit the Maximum Size of Aggregate of the mix.
