Aggregate Angularity

The DOE method , used by Firstmix, assumes that for concrete mix design aggregates can be classified into just two types, crushed and uncrushed. Crushed aggregate is angular and uncrushed aggregate is smooth. In order to extend the applicability of the method, Firstmix allows the user to specify the angularity of the aggregates on the Laboratory Measurements Dialog.

An angularity of 0% corresponds to uncrushed aggregate.

An angularity of 100% corresponds to crushed aggregate.

The overall angularities of the fine and coarse aggregate are calculated as the average of the angularities by volume, weighted by the reciprocal of the size.

When the Laboratory Measurements Dialog is first brought up for a mix, the angularities of the aggregate are set to match the Fine Aggregate Type and Coarse Aggregate Type.
