CSV Files

CSV Files (comma-separated variable files) are a standard format for transferring data between data bases or spread sheets. CSV Files are in ASCII format and so can be edited in a Text Editor. They consist of lines of data, each containing the same number of data items. As the name indicates the items of data are variables which are separated by commas. The variables can be numbers or text enclosed in "s.

The example below shows four lines of a CSV file, each containing 6 variables 1,"2s",2.000000,"Steam","Cylinder","MPa"
2,"7n",7.000000,"Normal","Cylinder","MPa"
3,"28n",28.000000,"Normal","Cylinder","MPa"
4,"3n",3.000000,"Normal","Cube","MPa"
